Configuring Your Web Browser

Requirements

To use the 'guest.utexas.edu' wireless Internet, you must ensure your Web browser is set up correctly. The Public Network (PNA) process requires you to set your browser to:

The most current versions of the Web browsers listed below are configured by default to enable cookies and JavaScript. If you have changed those settings or if you are using an earlier version that does not default to enable cookies and JavaScript, you must enable cookies and JavaScript for the pna.utexas.edu domain to use 'guest.utexas.edu'.

Browser Instructions

Remember that even though makers of Web browsers sometimes change the menu location of security settings from version to version, there is generally a place to choose Options or Preferences in the Tools menu (or Edit menu in some cases). If you cannot find instructions in the online help documentation for your browser, please e-mail the ITS Help Desk at help@its.utexas.edu or call (512) 475-9400.

Firefox

Select Options from the Tools menu. Define pna.utexas.edu as an exception that can set cookies. (Firefox enables JavaScript or not; you cannot set it for a specific site.)

Internet Explorer for Mac OS

Select Preferences from the Explorer menu. Cookies are in the Receiving Files group and JavaScript is in the Web Content group.

Internet Explorer for Windows

Select Internet Options from the Tools menu. Define pna.utexas.edu as a trusted site.

Mozilla

Select Preferences from the Edit menu. The JavaScript setting is in the Advanced section. The Cookies setting is in the Privacy & Security section.

Netscape

Select Preferences from the Edit menu. The JavaScript setting is in the Advanced section. The Cookies setting is in the Privacy & Security section.

Opera

Select Quick Preferences from the Tools menu.

Safari

Select Preferences from the Safari menu and click the Security group.
